Removing Dairy Stains With This Environmentally Friendly Chelating Agent

Removing Dairy Stains With This Environmentally Friendly Chelating Agent

Formulators of industrial and institutional detergents are increasingly looking for high-performance, environmentally friendly alternatives to well-known chelating agents like ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA). Replacing these traditional chelating agents is easier said than done, however.

Despite their role in assisting the removal of difficult stains — like gummy calcium stains left from dairy products, as well as films and spots on glassware — EDTA and NTA are facing regulatory pressures in some countries. The right environmentally friendly chemical alternative must have a high chelating ability and offer superior cleaning power without any regulatory restriction. It must also offer good solubility across a broad range of water hardness levels.

Until now, it has been difficult to find the right chemical alternative that meets all of these requirements. Most ordinary carboxylic acid polymers have a low calcium chelating ability and low solubility in hard water, for example.

Fortunately, AQUALIC™ FN-001 offers a solution with compelling benefits.

About AQUALIC™ FN-001

AQUALIC™ FN-001 is a proprietary, high-performance and water-soluble polymeric chelating agent that is environmentally safer than many other chelating agents of low molecular weight — including EDTA and NTA. Suitable for removing gummy calcium, it boasts an exceptional anti-redeposition ability that keeps glassware highly transparent. In fact, even a small amount of FN-001 — roughly one-tenth of the dosage of NTA — is highly effective, as evidenced in dishwashing tests for dairy stains. And, unlike other polymer-type chelators, AQUALIC™ FN-001’s solubility is not affected by hard water.

Other features and benefits include the following:

  • High calcium chelating ability — comparable to EDTA and NTA.
  • Low environmental impact.
  • Good solubility in hard water.
  • Excellent anti-redeposition performance.
  • Suitable for cleaning agents, water treatment, paper manufacturing and textile treatment applications.
  • Suitable for industrial and institutional cleaning applications.
  • Technical specifications:
    • Appearance: clear/slightly yellow viscous liquid
    • pH level: 6–8
    • Solvent: water
    • Solid content (%): 44–46
    • Viscosity (mPaᐧs at 25°C): 300–700
