AQUALIC™ FN-001: Excellent Chelating Ability and Solubility in Hard Water
While ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) are effective at removing gummy calcium stains left from dairy products, these chelating agents are facing regulatory pressures in some countries. While alternatives do exist, these chemicals come up short for a number of reasons. Sodium polyacrylate, for example, has a low calcium chelating ability, while polycarboxylic acid polymers have low solubility in hard water.
Here’s where AQUALIC™ FN-001 comes in. Unlike EDTA, NTA and current chemical alternatives, this environmentally friendly, water-soluble polymer checks all the boxes as far as performance goes. For example, check out how AQUALIC™ FN-001 has a comparable chelating ability to polyacrylic acid (PAA), acrylic acid and maleic acid (AA/MA) copolymer, methylglycinediacetic acid (MGDA), sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP), citric acid, EDTA and NTA:
Unlike polycarboxylic acid polymers, AQUALIC™ FN-001 is also not affected by hard water. In fact, it features good solubility for a broad range of water hardness levels and works much better than conventional polymeric chelating agent under severe hardness conditions:
Other features of AQUALIC™ FN-001 include the following:
- Excellent anti-redeposition performance.
- A smaller environmental impact than phosphorus, NTA and EDTA.
- Water-soluble, making it safer than other chelating agents with a low molecular weight.
- Suitable for a wide range of applications, including cleaning agents, water treatment, paper manufacturing and textile treatment.
